Sucky...

So the cool thing is that Vancouver/Whistler is getting the 2010 olympics. The sucky thing is sitting in the traffic jams caused by construction. i.e. I am able to type this whole message sitting here. :-(

Vancouver - Stanley Park

We're taking a horse-drawn carriage ride through Stanley Park. Looks like the sun is coming through. I forgot how nice horses smell. ;-)

10/30 activities

My apologies for no post for yesterday. Yesterday was a pretty lazy day, we walked around the resort village

since we had not seen it during the day and the sun was out. It was interesting talking to the shop workers about the differences between peak season and what is now off season. They have to make all their money for 1 year in 8 months. We saw people walking around, but it was hard to tell if some of them were tourists or locals.

We stopped in a chocolate store (or I was pulled into pulled into a chocolate store :-) )

and they had some interesting choices. We picked up some desserts for dinner: a big cookie

and white chocolate and peanut butter covered caramel apple.

Afterwards, a little more shopping and then we returned to our lodge. Next up, day trip to Vancouver.

out on the trails

Today we walked some of the trails around Whistler village. The one thing we were constantly saying is how the village is at the base of many mountains.

A five minute walk from our lodge will bring you to a ski lift. Currently, it's off-season, so it's great that it's not crowded at all. Unfortunately, the lifts are closed. That's ok, we're still having a great time.

One of the trails we walked led to 'Lost Lake'. It was so quiet there. We got the opportunity to talk to a family visiting the area from Vancouver. They were very friendly and told us about the country and the Vancouver area especially.

There were a few creeks around the area and the temptation was too great. I had to taste the water. I'm still alive and not sick yet so that's a great thing for all of us! And the water tasted real clean and crisp.

Well, that's it for tonight. See you tomorrow!

Grocery Trip Part Deux

As you can tell by the previous post, we went to the grocery store. Nesters Market is the name

I know this might not be interesting, but it was kinda neat doing something normal as grocery shopping in another country. All the measurements you're used to, (1/2 gallon of milk, 1/2 pound of turkey) are in different units. We picked up a litre of milk, and I ordered 300 grams of ham plus 300 grams of roast beef.

Also, purchased chicken, pasta, tomatoes, and butter. It was interesting to note the brands of products. We saw a lot of national brand names, but there are foods that are only found in Canada. I (Michele) am glad that I had shopped at World Market and Trader Joe's in the past, I didn't feel so out of place. America has better prices, even in the expensive ones.

I uploaded a picture of the houses behind the grocery store. That was taken with the phone. Michele took a much better picture with her camera. Here it is.

Ok, that's it from here today. Going to start the major sightseeing tomorrow. More pics and tales!

grocery trip

This is the view from the grocery store parking lot. Lot of fog on the mountain. More about the store later.

sunday morning

So today I was able to watch my Giants play the Dolphins in London! Lucky for me, the game was broadcast on one of the channels here. Since the game was shown live, that meant 10 am here. Now we have the rest of the day to do stuff. First order of business, off to the grocery store to pick up supplies for the week. After that we may look around the village some more. Who knows? I'm sure there will be more pictures to follow.

We made it!

Hey everyone, we finally made it. This pic doesn't nearly do justice to the view from outside our lodge. The mountain is literally right up from the village. The drive up from Vancouver was winding and hilly, but really beautiful. We're gonna go back and get some more pics to post.

We have some Canadian dollars to spend. I need to go get a Coke since they're supposed to be made with real sugar. Here are some more pics.

A mountain up from the highway. Michele took this from the car while we were driving up.

This was taken from the plane flying into Canada.

All these pics were taken from my phone. You can just imagine what they're gonna look like when we bust out our cameras! Till tomorrow, good night!

In Chicago

We made it to Chicago and have boarded our flight to Vancouver. Very exciting. We have never flown out of O'Hare, so this has been an experience. Two mega airports in 5 hours. With one more to go? Look out world!

How early is it??

Well, it' 6:15 am and we're at the *busy* airport. We've got a long day ahead of us. Michele's sleeping at the moment, I'll wait till I'm on the plane. At the very least this blog will be updated nightly. Stay tuned!!!
